Muslim Brotherhood

One of the major political movements within Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood formed the Freedom and Justice Party after the Arab Spring of 2011. Their leader Mohamed Morsi won the presidential election, although he was later overthrown and the movement was subject to a clampdown from the official authorities. The Muslim Brotherhood is also one of the main opposition groups to the Syrian government. The group is committed to Sunni Islamist principles and is widely classed as a terrorist group.
