A disputed area within international relations, with the Israelis and Palestinians claiming Jerusalem as their capital city. The majority of UN member states believe that the status of Jerusalem should be resolved via negotiation. As such, they have located their embassies in Tel Aviv. In addition, the UN (and EU) advocates Jerusalem as a capital of both Israel and Palestine. However, the Trump administration declared Jerusalem to be the official capital of Israel and moved the American embassy to the Holy city. The Palestinian National Authority views East Jerusalem as occupied territory and claims the area as the capital. It also argues that Jerusalem should be an open city.
